Summerschool on Law and Logic 2013

The second Sumer School on Law and Logic is to be held in Fiesole, Florence (Italy), from 15-26 July, 2013, jointly hosted by the European University Institute and Harvard Law School. The professors of the Summer School are Scott Brewer, Henry Prakken, Nino Rotolo, Bartosz Brozek, Giovanni Sartor, Michele Taruffo and Peter Tillers. This year's edition consists of a 7-day Basic Course on "Logic, Argumentation and Legal Reason", followed by a 3-day special course on "Logic, Argumentation and the Law of Evidence".

Only a limited number of students can participate. The application deadline is March, 31. For more information see

Call for Participation JURISIN 2012

Registration for the 6th International Workshop on JURIS-Informatics (JURISIN 20012) is now open. JURISIN 2012 will be held in Miyazaki, Japan, on November 30 - December 1, 2012. Invited speakers are Kazuhisa Todayama (Nagoya University, Japan), Philip T.H. Chung (Australasian Legal Information Institute, Australia) and as special commentator Robert Kowalski (Professor Emeritus, Imperial College London). Call for Participation: IRIS 2012

The 15th 'Internationales Rechtsinformatik Symposium" will take place in Salzburg (Austria) from February 23-25, 2012. IRIS is the largest and most important academic conference on computers and law in Austria and Central Europe. The main conference language is German but one of the six tracks will be in English. The 2011 LEX Summerschool on "Managing legal resources in the semantic web" will take place in Ravenna (Italy), 5-10 September 2011. This edition is organised in two courses:

- A Basic Course providing an introduction to XML web technologies and basic technologies for drafting and managing standard-compliant legislative and legal documents;
- An Advanced Course providing in-depth analysis of the higher levels of Semantic Web technologies and of their application to the legal domain: modelling of modifications, procedures and legal knowledge.

QAJF 2011: Proportionality and Justice

The 2nd International Conference on Quantitative Aspects of Justice and Fairness (QAJF 2011) will take place in Fiesole (Florence), Italy, February 25-26, 2011. The QAJF conference addresses legal and ethical issues through formal and quantitative models and their computable implementations. The second edition will focus on Proportionality and Justice and aims at investigating the extent to which formal and quantitative models can be brought to bear on issues pertaining to balancing interests and values of different individuals, social groups and institutions as well as to balancing different sources of information, in different legal, political or social contexts.

Legislative XML Summer School - LeX 8-13 September 2008 European University Institute, San Domenico di Fiesole, Florence (Italy)

The LEX school aims at providing knowledge of the most significant ICT standards emerging for legislation, an understanding of their impact in the different phases of the legislative process, awareness of the tools based on legislative standards, and the ability to participate in the preparation and use of standard-compliant documents throughout law-making process.

This edition LeX Summer School is organized in two courses:
- A Basic Course providing an introduction to the XML web technologies and the basic level of the technologies for drafting and managing standard-compliant legislative documents;
