David D. Lewis became a full-time consultant in 2000, but he's done consulting work off and on since graduate school. He has worked with a variety of organizations, including small and large companies, universities, and nonprofit organizations. From 1992 to 2000, Dave was a researcher at AT&T Labs and Bell Labs, where he did research and built prototype systems in the areas of information retrieval, machine learning, natural language processing, and evaluation of information systems. He also advised AT&T business units and AT&T Ventures on investments in technology and companies in these areas.
From 1991 to 1992, Dave Lewis was a research faculty member at the University of Chicago. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, under the direction of W. Bruce Croft. His Ph.D. dissertation won the 1992 American Society for Information Science Doctoral Forum Award. Dave has published more than 75 scientific papers and 8 patents, and is a frequent invited speaker and tutorial presenter. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
